Why I consider Helichrysum a must have in my toolbox

Helichrysum oil is a must in my travel medicine cabinet, as well as for at home. It has a soft, lightly sweet smell and is known for its restorative properties to support skin, liver and nervous system.

A favourite place to put Helichrysum is on the edges of the ear to help with emotions while travelling. I also put a drop on the bridge of the nose in case of nosebleeds, and it’s definitely one of the first things out for cuts and bleeds.

❓Did you know?
👸Helichrysum is known as Everlast, because when you cut it, it rejuvenates and regrows over and over. Using this powerful oil then makes sense when we are trying to fight fine lines and wrinkles, almost like the fountain of youth. So much more so when you're away from home, or dealing with stressful times.

📚 It can be used for focus and clarity, hence if you or your kids have homework to do while travelling, this is a good one to use.

⛷Helichrysum helps with supporting the body after exercise or injury - no surprise it’s found in Panaway and Deep Relief then! This is a must while travelling, to soothe the achy body after a busy day!

☀️ Also found in LAVADERM - for after sun tender care. It helps cool the skin and repairs (remember Everlast?) Helichrysum can also be used by itself for skin support, I would recommend adding V6 to it to help spread it further.

🌼🧪For those who love science, you’d want to know Helichrysum oil has a rich and complex profile of the naturally occurring constituents neryl acetate, gamma-curcumene, and alpha-pinene (google those!).

My family's testimonial

This is my dad’s testimonial, with his eczema. Check out the before and after!

Used in a base of YL Lavender hand and body lotion: helichrysum, lavender, Frank, myrrh and carrot seed, tea tree, geranium, and sandalwood. Many of the oils are NHP oils specifically for eczema. He used that cream I made up, daily twice a day until it got better.

Basically I throw tons of oils at stuff and let them do the work.

Along with eating cleanly, avoiding too much sugar, and moving so the lymphatic system can drain, oils can be an amazing part of your wellness arsenal.

Trust your oils, they are powerful!

YL Helichrysum farm in Croatia

🌼In the past, wild crafters were pulling out the entire plant during harvest, which meant it was not sustainable.

Young Living applied for, and was granted, the only foreign company license to grow helichrysum in Croatia on its own farm (which has tripled in size). We have been blessed to visit it several times and I've seen it from its humble beginnings to the thriving farm that it is now.

The farm is literally in the middle of nowhere, in a village a little ways from Split, Croatia. The air is fresh, the soil is healthy, and the farmers are dedicated!

Fun fact: Gary put crystals on four corners of the farm and along one side as there are wires that span that side of the farm. He wanted only good energy and frequency to come onto the farm.

Young Living, while growing helichrysum at this farm, is helping protect the species from overharvesting, and ensuring it does not die out. What an amazing way to help nature survive!

We distill the tiny flowers and so the yield is usually low, hence the high value price of Helichrysum.

Just breathe

We usually use LLP (Lemon, Lavender and Peppermint to help breathe easy, but maybe you want a bit of a change.

Enter Geranium and Helichrysum! I'm gonna teach you a trick, try it, I know you'll love it!

If you're trying oils for the first time, dilute with a carrier oil or lotion. Remember NOT to get the oils into your eyes, and ears.

Ok, ready? Rub Helichrysum above your eyebrows, and on the bridge of your nose. Use Geranium on the cheekbones.

This is a great recipe for breastfeeding moms. Milk is a mucus, so whatever dries your nose up could also dry out your milk. Good news is, these oils don't do that!

8 things you didn’t know about Helichrysum Essential Oil

We love Helichrysum; it’s in some of our favorite blends such as Deep Relief™, but it’s also fabulous on its own. A little bit earthy, a little bit herby, its invigorating aroma can chase away the sluggish energy in a room. And that’s just the start of the dozens of ways this essential oil is a multitasking all-star.

It may be a must-have, but this rare plant is also a little mysterious, so we’re giving you eight fun facts and tips about this favorite essential oil for your inner botanist! Go ahead and use them to flex your EO knowledge at your next party—you’re sure to establish yourself among your friends as the essential oil guru.

1. Helichrysum flowers are sometimes called Immortelle, or the Everlasting Flower, possibly because of the way its essential oil can smooth the appearance of fine lines and uneven skin tone. Home spa night, anyone?

2. Helichrysum is a self-seeding plant in the sunflower family. It grows native in rocky and sandy terrains throughout the Mediterranean. If you love Helichrysum oil, you should probably book a Mediterranean vacation to go see it for yourself ASAP. Just saying.

3. The word “helichrysum” comes from Latin and Greek roots, meaning “gold spiral.” Its beautiful, tiny golden blossoms definitely deserve the name.

4. Hit a slump? Throw some Helichrysum essential oil and Eucalyptus Radiata into your diffuser. The fresh, earthy, invigorating scent will perk your space right up and help you refocus on that mile-long to-do list. It probably wouldn’t hurt during homework time either.

5. Tiny flowers mean tiny yields of essential oil. We steam distill the delicate blossoms of this plant, and while we don’t get much oil from each distillation, that oil has a rich and complex profile of the naturally occurring constituents neryl acetate, gamma-curcumene, and alpha-pinene.

6. Hitting the gym? One of our top Helichrysum oil uses is sports massage. Add a few drops of Helichrysum and Peppermint to V-6™ Vegetable Oil Complex and knead into muscles wherever you need it. Believe us—that treadmill won’t look so daunting tomorrow.

7. Helichrysum is typically harvested wild from the rocky shores of Croatia’s Dalmatia region, but Young Living’s helichrysum is cultivated at our farm in Split, Croatia. By cultivating this rare plant, Young Living is helping to protect it from exploitation and overharvesting. In using our Helichrysum essential oil, you’re helping support sustainable agriculture. Doesn’t that feel good?

8. Skin dull and dry from time out in the sun? Help revive it with a soothing, aromatic combination of Helichrysum, Lavender, and coconut oil. Gently massage the mixture onto your skin, then kick back with a honey-lavender lemonade for a total inside-out reprieve from the heat.
